Meditative States
Meditative States is a series of minimalist seascapes that serve as visual catalysts for reflection, revealing a deeper sense of calm, presence, and connection from within. 2009-Present
This Series although Published is a Work in Progress
This Series explores the sea as a space of contemplation—a place where distinctions between light and darkness, sea and sky, presence and absence begin to dissolve.
Drawing upon philosophical and spiritual ideas of stillness, harmony, emptiness and oneness, the photographs reduce the landscape to its most elemental forms. The horizon becomes a threshold between the physical and the infinite, while changing conditions of light and atmosphere transform the same elemental world into profoundly different states.
Like the Zen ensō—a circle that can suggest both emptiness and wholeness—the work considers the possibility that stillness is not an absence, but a state of completeness.
By allowing the eyes to rest upon the image, looking itself becomes a form of meditation. Gradually, the boundaries between observer and landscape begin to dissolve. Thought recedes, the self becomes quiet, and for a moment, what remains is simply breathing. In that stillness, there is no longer a need to understand the landscape, only to experience it: light, space, time, sound, breath—and the quiet sensation of belonging to something intangible and greater than ourselves.
